Canine Companions for Independence Fundraiser
On the weekend of Oct. 21st Sarah and I made our way down to La Jolla for a great cause – the Canine Companions for Independence Wheels of Wonder Fundraiser. In short, make it to this event yourself next year! Furthermore, if you are looking for a great charity, visit http://www.cci.org/ as this event is probably the most rewarding experience that either of us has been a part of.
On Saturday Sarah joined cycling celebrities Floyd Landis, Robbie Ventura, Axel Merckx and others to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Southwest CCI Region and raise needed funds for this vital organization. Floyd, who was the guest of honor, was well received with a standing ovation that lasted several minutes prior to the auction. It’s great to see Floyd holding his head up so proudly in public by signing an endless request for autographs and pictures. Floyd is a guy who always makes time for his fans, a quality of a true champion!
The charity ride on Sunday was spectacular as well. Perfect 75 degree weather, a pristine coastline to ride on and great companionship equaled a superb time by all. At the turn-around we were greeted by about 15 cci dogs in training – very cool.
A little about CCI (taken from their site):
